Friends of the Rydings were pleased to present a talk on the history of Mackintosh’s Halifax by David Glover, local historian.
Daivd’s well-researched and clearly presented talks are always popular with our audiences. Today, he told us the story of Mackintosh’s from its beginnings to its world-wide fame.
Using Violet and John’s savings of £100, Violet Mackintosh prepared toffee to her own recipe to sell to passing trade. The couple were able to build their company rapidly into a successful business.
We learned of Mackintosh’s impact on Halifax; its care for employees and its contributions to the war effort during WW1.
Thank you David for your interesting talk; we hope to welcome you back for next year’s program.
