The Friends of the Rydings were pleased to present Reminiscences from a Long Life on Saturday 29th June at 1.30.
Now 98-year-old, Marjorie Atkinson, presented her memories of growing up in Huddersfield in in the 1930’s and 1940’s.
She grew up in Huddersfield and moved to Brighouse as a child. She recalled her visits to Huddersfield town centre with her mother, its buildings, shops and transport. She described home life and how she passed her time as a child, playing in the park and in the local woodland.
Her descriptions of life in the mid-20th century, sparked discussion in the audience and the conversations were lively and interesting. Members discussed the rapid changes in society brought about by technological advances, particularly in the lives of women since the 1930’s.
Thank you so much Marjorie, for your fascinating and eloquent presentation.
