Paul Blakey MBE — Street Angels.

31st January 2026

Paul told gave us the history of the Street Angels in front of a large audience of members, friends and visitors.

Paul Blakey MBE, gave an uplifting, sometimes touching account of the work of the Street Angels.

2005, Halifax town centre in the early hours of the morning, had become a problem for residents, business owners and the police. Late night drinking was bringing crime and danger to the streets of the town.

Paul and a group from his church offered to open their tiny cafe to provide help and support to late night revellers. With the support of the police, the idea took off and, despite the government’s relaxation of opening hours, crime rates fell dramatically.

Paul described to us how Street Angels has grown to serve towns and cities throughout the country and across the world. Street Angels can be found at festivals and other events where young (and not so young!) gather.

Many thanks to Paul for an uplifting, life-affirming talk!
