Study of a Life Time.

28th October

Members were entertained by Ann Evans who has been part of a government study since she was born.

Concerned by the falling birth rate, in 1946 the British Government initiated a study to find out the impact of maternity costs on families and their decision to have children.

Ann was one of almost 17,000 babies born in the week 3rd to 9th March 1946.  Almost 5,000 of these families agreed to take part in the study.

From this modest beginning, the study grew to include education, health, careers and, more lately, the impact of ageing on this cohort.

Thank you Ann for your fascinating talk; it stimulated a lot of interest and discussion from the audience.
